DISTRICT COUNCILLOR FOR BECTON WARD
My name is Christine Ward. I am one of your two District councillors for Becton ward in New Milton.
I have lived in New Milton for 12 years with my husband Derek, who is a retired engineer consulting for oil companies. We have lived all over the world with our four daughters and have shared experiences in many different cultures. It is now wonderful to be settled in such a beautiful part of England, which is also being enjoyed by our eight grandchildren during their visits.
We moved from Bromley, Kent, where I served on the governing body of two primary schools and was involved in voluntary work for three organisations.
As part of a team managing a home for residents with mental health issues, I worked closely with Mind, the police, community nurses, social workers and doctors.
As a counsellor for Bromley Community Bereavement Service I was involved, with Bromley Health Authority, and ran specialist training courses to support clients with issues relating to HIV and AIDS.
Through The Diocese of Rochester, I spent time on a committee researching the problems of young homeless people, which resulted in the launching of the Latch Project, matching young people in need with mentors and accommodation.
Since moving to New Milton I have worked in a local bank, and for New Forest District Council as a Customer Information Officer until my retirement last year.
During my seven years with the council, I acquired a vast amount of knowledge about the way the council is run, the needs and issues most important to the residents all over the New Forest area, and got to know many of the residents themselves.
I will draw on my past experience and knowledge to serve the residents in Becton to the best of my ability.
