I am very much a local man, having lived in the area all my life. I trained as an electrician and ran my own electrical business for 37 years.
I was a passed retained fireman for 37 years and served as officer in charge of New Milton Fire Station for 16 years. I sat on the New Forest Bench as a Magistrate for 27 years. I also ran New Milton Carnival for 16 years and I am currently the President of New Milton Conservative Club and a serving member of the Committee for the past 53 years.
I have been an elected member of New Forest District Council for Barton and New Milton wards since 1983, and have had the honour of acting as Chairman on two occasions, during which time I assisted in the construction of Lymington and Totton Recreation Centre and oversaw the major extension to Dibden Golf Course.
At present I serve as Vice-Chairman of Leisure Services Review Panel, Vice-Chairman of the Standards Committee and Vice-Chairman of the General Purposes and Licensing Committee.
I am also a member of New Milton Town Council, having been so since 1979 and Chairman of Amenities Committee and played a major role in commissioning the new sports facilities of Fawcetts Field and Fernhill and the rebuilding of the Bowling Club.
I have found that being a Councillor and working within the community has given me a great deal of pleasure.

I am a retired but 'young' family man living in Barton-on-Sea. I served with the Royal Marines for 24 years, thereafter working in the field of Leisure and being supported by my wife throughout those years. We have three sons and seven grandchildren.
As with everything in life, you get back what you put in. I see my role as a councillor as changing life for the better for the people I represent. Satisfaction emanates from listening to views of all the local community and then taking those messages to both the Town and District councils and when necessary to the County Council.
And seeing the results: safer and cleaner streets, environmental improvements, a better quality of life for both the young and older generations. I have a special interest in the provision of facilities and services for children and young people and have worked tirelessly to assist with the delivery of what they tell me they need. I am committed to improving the quality of life for residents of this area and believe the maintenance of the New Forest is the key to the sustainability of our communities.
My interests include walking, charity fundraising, sporting activities and meeting and talking with people. Christine, my wife, keeps my feet on the ground and constantly reminds me what really matters - happiness and wellbeing - and I will work hard to make that happen for our community.
The posts I hold are:
NFDC's Crime and Disorder Portfolio
Chair, New Milton Town Council Amenities Committee
Vice Chair, Barton and Becton Conservative Branch
Vice Chair, New Milton Branch of the Royal British Legion
School Governor, Ashley Infants School

Educated at Cheltenham Grammar School, I undertook National Service in 1952-54 after which I joined the Metropolitan Police in 1956. I served for 25 years and retired in 1981 to become a self-employed businessman running a driving school and insurance claims investigation business, specialising in fraudulent motor theft claims.
I retired to New Milton in 1995 and have been married for 45 years to Olwen; we have 2 sons and 7 grandchildren.
Elected in 1997 as a Conservative New Milton Town Councillor for Becton Ward, in 2001 I became Chairman of the Council. At present I serve on the Finance & General Purposes and Amenities Committees. In 1999 I was elected as a District Councillor and serve as Chairman of the Environment Review Panel. I am also on the Planning Development Control Committee, General Purposes & Licensing Committee and Corporate Overview Panel. I am involved in various sub-committees in connection with the above bodies.
My motto is always to remember that it is my job to serve all members of the public to the best of my ability.

I live in Cliffe Road, Barton-on-Sea and teach music in Bournemouth. My husband, David, works for the RNLI in Poole.
At NFDC, I am a member of the Planning Development Control Committee, the Environment Review Panel & the Crime and Disorder Review Panel.
Being an NFDC councillor is incredibly rewarding work and I have been able to help residents with many different concerns. I care very deeply for this stunning, coastal area of the New Forest, and I shall:
· continue to strongly oppose dense, inconsiderate and unnecessary planning applications, whilst supporting those which improve the area for residents
· campaign against any future gravel extraction proposal for Ashley Manor Farm, and any other threats to our beautiful green spaces
· continue my liaison with the NFDC coastal protection team to find the best solutions to our rapidly eroding cliffs
· support our local post offices, shops, cafes, guest houses and other businesses

I am self employed, previously working for British Forces Radio and the BBC. I am married, with three young children.
4 years ago you awarded me the great responsibility of representing you as one of your Conservative councillors. Our area is a great place to live, work and grow.
We all know that our local way of life is under constant threat from persons who do not live in the forest and frankly couldn’t care less.
I have with my Conservative colleagues been fighting to stop any undermining of our lifestyle and to make things better.

I have lived in the Dorset/Hampshire area for the past 27 years. My three children also live and work locally. For the last 7 years my wife and I have lived in Thorney Hill, Bransgore. My working life comprised 15 years with BBC Television News in London, followed by 23 years with Plessey/Marconi Telecoms in Poole as an electronic systems engineer. Early retirement due to the closure of Marconi in Poole has given me opportunities to contribute to the wellbeing of the area as a District Councillor. My interests include gardening, DIY, building kit cars and computing. I also help out as a recording engineer for the Ringwood Talking News organisation.
I am a member of the NFDC Planning Development Control Committee. This is a very emotive subject and I am happy to offer advice to residents of my ward but I cannot express my own opinions. My own judgement has to be made on the whole evidence as presented to the Planning Development Control Committee at which the application is considered. However, this does not preclude residents from writing to me or the Committee and presenting their case in advance of the meeting. The planning procedures for some residents of Bransgore and all residents of Burley have now altered following the creation of the National Park Authority (NPA), which has their own Planning Committee. Unfortunately, District Councillors have no jurisdiction in connection with the NPA although we can still offer advice since at present the NPA works within the same Local Plan.
My other Council activities include membership of the General Purposes and Licensing Committee, which hears objections on licensing applications; the Environment Review Panel which develops NFDC's environmental management policy and its Safer Food, Better Business policy 'rollout' concerning licensed food premises. As a member of the Crime and Disorder Panel (C&D), of which I am currently Chairman, I am involved with CCTV policy, Accredited Community Safety Wardens (ACSOs) and Fear of Crime reduction policy. Associated with C&D, I am also Chairman of the New Forest Domestic Violence Forum, which is a multi-agency group dealing with all aspects of domestic abuse.

I have been actively involved in local politics for the last six years.
Many villages and rural communities face their own unique challenges but some problems seem to be almost universal. For example the loss of local bus services, the closure or threatened closure of local shops, especially local Post Offices.
I know that many people feel that their government and even their council do not understand just how isolated a village can feel at times and just how important a place to meet neighbours, or a chance to visit the local town can be.
These are just a few of the issues that affect our lives in rural villages and communities. I could obviously also mention rural crime, planning and the need to preserve villages whilst at the same time providing homes for local people and many other things.
Many people look at your villages and think what a wonderful place to live and they are right, but it takes hard work to keep them that way and I will do my part.

I was first introduced to politics by a neighbour; I helped with the New Milton Conservative Branch garden party. I soon became active within the branch and I was very interested in the work the councillors were doing.
I have always liked helping people and decided to stand for the Council at a by-election in 2001. Becoming a councillor has enabled me to do just that. I might not always be able to give the answer that people are hoping for but at least I will have tried!
At the moment I am the chairman of the Housing, Health and Social Inclusion Review Panel. We cover a vast range of subjects but I really enjoy the work.
I do not have much spare time but when I do I love to be able to work in the garden. Often when I am digging the soil over I will have a couple of blackbirds at my feet looking for the worms and grubs and let's not forget the robin!
I also go to the gym and try to keep fit as the dog walks these days tend to be more of a stop and sniff rather than "let's get walking".
I love the ward I represent and feel very privileged to have been elected as one of their district councillors.
I have taken the Housing Health and Social Inclusion panel meetings on the road during the summer. I was hoping that more members of the public would attend but unfortunately that was not the case. However we will now be back in the Council Chamber for the winter and I will try again during the summer of 2007.

I was born in London (19-05-1925) we came to the New Forest in 1930. We lived in "Old Holbury". During WW2 I worked at the British Power Boat Co. in Hythe. I met Jack Snowden, an electronics engineer from Kent and we married in Beaulieu Abbey church in November 1946. We went to Wales for a couple of years and in 1948 we set sail for Singapore. We were there and in Malaysia for 40 years returning to U.K. in 1988. During our stay in Singapore I sailed as a foreward hand in Jack's International Dragon and was very heavily involved with the Cheshire Homes. I studied art and played golf and was chairman of the ladies committee of the British Association. Since returning to the U.K. I have joined the New Milton Town Council and the New Forest District Council and also continue with art studies.

Michael Pemberton
One of Milford’s two, current District Councillors, Michael Pemberton was educated at Marlborough College and Sandhurst. He was commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1948. After eight years, including Active Service in Korea, Michael applied for release and joined a British company in the Far East, taking him to Penang and then Sri Lanka.
Eventually, realising the days of the expatriate were over, Michael returned to Britain in 1963 to join the Royal Air Force, in which he served for 16 years achieving the rank of Squadron Leader. Michael retired in 1990 after eleven years in commercial management with The Plessey Company and, subsequently, Royal Ordnance. He has lived near Milford since 1987, has a son and two grandchildren in Australia and a daughter living in Bournemouth.
Michael has been a District Councillor for six years now and speaks regularly in Council, especially on planning matters on behalf of Milford residents. In particular, he has frequently warned of the dangers of developers building homes suitable for the holiday market as these threaten to damage the village’s economy through a starved winter trade.
Michael chairs the Keyhaven River Users’ Advisory Group, ensuring an untrammelled future for this unique and beautiful asset.
A qualified skipper, Michael loves the sea and seizes every opportunity to be afloat! He enjoys music and tries his hand at watercolours when he can.

I have lived in New Milton with my wife Joan for the past 27 years. During this time I worked in the Civil Service in various offices in Southern England. Following my retirement in 2003 I stood for election as District Councillor in May 2003. I hope that I will continue to serve the Local Community as a District Councillor for a few years yet. I strongly believe that my past employment in government service where I had been involved in Information Technology and Intranet development has helped me provide excellent support for the residents of the Ward and the District Council itself.
I was the Group Scout Leader of the Milton Scout Group for 15 years, during which time the old Scout ‘Hut’ was pulled down and replaced by the modern Scout Centre in Caird Avenue. I was very pleased and proud to have been leading the group during that period when almost £100,000 was raised in under 3 years to finance the construction and fitting out of the new Centre. The scout Centre was built for, and is now used substantially, for many different community activities, not simply as a Scout HQ.
I have been a member of the Conservative Club for over 17 years and have served on its management committee for the past 8 years.
